3 Channels Toward Meaningful Motivation

“The starting point of all achievement is desire” – Napoleon Hill

Motivation is a word just like any other until we put the meaning and value behind it. As the magical and cosmic human beings that we are, we thrive on meaningful touches, mutuality and the interconnectedness that we build with other people and our inner desires. Motivation is the first light from an inner spark that sets us toward a goal, dream or aspiration- it is our hearts call to begin something new. What makes it meaningful is what keeps it warm and illuminated as it transforms to more of a flame- something that burns brightly inside us. Meaning adds significance, integrity and value to everything that we say and do. Our motivation will soon fade without a strong sense of purpose and reason to keep it ignited and forged in momentum.

When we touch back to our inner mechanisms of strength, resilience, and endurance we are better able to create a pathway to our desires through the power of our purpose. Our purpose is our ‘why’; it is what everything else sits upon. It is our foundation and the blue print of the visions we hold within our minds eye and feel with our whole heart; it’s what keeps us channelling our energy toward our desire no matter what troubles and trials lay up ahead.

“The size of your success is measured by the strength of your desire; the size of your dream; and how you handle disappointment along the way” – Robert Kiyosa

1. Inner Fuel

We are all intrinsically sparked or triggered into action by different things. Our inner fuel is what engineers a way forward when adversity hits; it is our ability to endure and to keep going even when the odds are stacked against us. We are innately fuelled by many things- pain, love, fear, passion, purpose, tough times and failure. When we understand our own inner settings with a greater sense of self awareness we can master our motivation and ability to stay the course when all seems lost. We can use what fuels us to keep breaking down the walls of doubt that we naturally create when we begin to question the route of our dreams and ambitions. Rather than allowing external circumstance to alter our esteemed vision, we can utilise all we have within to drive us forward. Instead of changing our goal or the impression of our dream, we can alter our steps toward it. Big hopes and dreams inspire us to break out of our own self-imposed limits.

“Talent is a flame. Genius is a fire” – Bernard Williams

2. Patience to Endure

The ability to endure, and to do so with an unwavering belief in yourself and your desires, is like having the most stubborn of hearts laced in a golden glow. The essence of life is a test of our endurance. Our motivation often dies off when we don’t see the results of our efforts- if we can’t physically see the reward for all our work then what is the point? Impatience dulls our vision, clouds our minds, and hacks away at our self belief. Rather than keeping a watch on the external clock, we can synchronise ourselves to our own inner timing and have trust in the bigger picture. Dreams and aspirations with value and the pure substance to stand the test of time are not won in a week, a month, or maybe even a year. Patience says, hold fast to what you wish to create- a commitment is born from integrity and inherent faith.

“Endurance is the crowning quality, and patience all the passion of great hearts” – James Russell Lowell

3. Passion, desire, and the will to win

The inner flames of our desire and passion are powerful and emotional propellers. We endure the dark times through the fiery embers of our emotional energy. It is a sense of sheer devotion to our cause; what we aim for is sewn from the depths of our heart and benevolent essence. We will be motivated by the things that truly fire us up and inspire within us a unique will- an autonomous and unparalleled stem of determination. That motivation becomes like a hunger for something that your soul craves, and not for any peripheral prize of success- the gift is the sense of achievement that arises from the innermost part of you. This is what makes it meaningful and enduring. We become strengthened by our struggles; stormy waters are when we get to adjust our sails and commit to riding the waves. When we stay focused on our win we can navigate toward our dreams with power, potential and purpose.

“One day, in retrospect, the years of struggle will strike you as the most beautiful” – Sigmund Freud

It is always easy to stay positive and motivated when things are going well, but the true power of that inner spark is what lights your way when all the external illumination has faded. Our intrinsic motivation needs a powerful feed from our deeper emotions and mindset to make it uniquely meaningful to us so we stay the course. Our inner fuel is the engine of our ambition.

What’s vital is the decision to solidly commit to go the distance and go all out for your win- “if you are going to go, go all the way”.
